Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) is a potent androgen derived from testosterone via 5‑alpha‑reductase activity. A deficiency in 5‑alpha‑reductase results in incompletely virilized males (phenotypic females), a diagnosis supported by an elevated testosterone to DHT ratio.
