Dog Dander (e5) IgE with Reflex to Component Panel
Also known as: BRACA
Use
This test screens for immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibodies in blood against whole dog dander (e5). A positive result reflexively leads to component testing for specific dog allergens (Can f 1, Can f 2, Can f 4 — saliva allergens; Can f 5 — male dog urine allergen; and Can f 3 / Can f 6 — cross‑reactive allergens). It aids in assessing sensitization to general dog dander and component-level reactivity, which can help inform allergy diagnosis and potential reactivity to male versus female dogs or cross-reactive allergens.
Special Instructions
Reflex to component testing occurs automatically following a positive whole-dander IgE (e5) result. No special preparation is required for the blood draw. This test can be performed through patient-initiated purchase (e.g., via questhealth.com) and collected at Quest Diagnostics locations or via Quest Mobile where available.
Limitations
A positive IgE result suggests sensitization but does not confirm clinical allergy or reaction severity. Blood-based IgE results may not correspond with skin-prick test outcomes. Component testing is only performed if the whole dog dander (e5) IgE is positive. Interpretation should be made in conjunction with clinical history.
