Allergen Profile, Cat and Dog, IgE, With Reflex to Components
Use
Allergen component testing offers advantages over the use of a complete extract, especially in poly-sensitized individuals, given its usefulness for distinguishing between sensitizations specific to singular species and sensitizations due to cross-reactivity.
Special Instructions
The test reflex criteria are: if Dog IgE ≥0.35 kU/L, IgE for Can f 1, Can f 2, Can f 3, Can f 4, Can f 5, and Can f 6 will be performed. If Cat IgE ≥0.35 kU/L, IgE for Fel d 1, Fel d 2, Fel d 4, and Fel d 7 will be performed. Results should be interpreted in the context of the patient's clinical history.
Limitations
While component IgE testing enhances allergy evaluations over whole extracts, these results require careful interpretation relative to the patient's clinical history. Cross-reactivity between allergens can complicate diagnosis and may not indicate clinical allergy to both cats and dogs without further clinical context.
