Allergens, Animal, Dog/Cat Epithelium Profile
Also known as: EPI PAN 2
Use
The Allergens, Animal, Dog/Cat Epithelium Profile test is used for the quantitative measurement of allergen-specific IgE antibodies in serum to identify sensitivities to cat epithelium & dander and dog dander. These measurements are reflective of the concentration of allergen-specific IgE antibodies in the blood which may indicate the likelihood of an IgE mediated allergic reaction in patients with exposure to these allergens.
Special Instructions
Avoid multiple patient encounters and multiple specimen tubes. Serum should be separated from cells as soon as possible or within 2 hours of collection. Transfer serum to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube.
Limitations
Allergen results in the range of 0.10-0.34 kU/L have an undetermined clinical relevance and should be interpreted by a specialist. The correlation between allergen concentrations and clinical response or skin testing results is not always direct. A negative test may not rule out clinical allergy or anaphylaxis. This test measures allergen-specific IgE, but clinical history and in vivo reactivity are essential for accurate diagnosis.
