Cat Hair/Dander
Also known as: Cat Dander
Use
The Cat Hair/Dander test measures specific IgE antibodies to cat allergens, which can help in diagnosing allergic reactions such as rhinitis, asthma, or other respiratory issues related to cat exposure. Identifying specific IgE levels assists in understanding the severity and potential triggers of allergic responses in patients exposed to cat hair or dander.
Special Instructions
This test utilizes the Thermo Fisher ImmunoCAP® method, which is a specific technique for measuring IgE antibodies against allergens. The specimen required is serum, which should be collected in a red-top tube or a gel-barrier tube.
Limitations
The test is limited to the detection of specific IgE antibodies against cat hair and dander. High levels of IgE are indicative of sensitization but should be interpreted in the larger context of clinical evaluation, as some sensitized individuals may not develop clinical symptoms. Variability in IgE levels can occur due to biological factors, and results should not be the sole source of diagnosis without considering patient history and other diagnostic tools.
