Use
The Allergens, Animal Epithelium/Dander/Feather Mix Profile test measures specific IgE antibodies to common animal allergens, including cat and dog dander, cow hair, feather mix, and horse hair. It is used to evaluate patients for potential allergic reactions to these common environmental allergens. Increasing levels of allergen-specific IgE may indicate a higher risk of clinical allergic reactions, but they may not directly correlate with symptom severity or skin testing results.
Special Instructions
Avoid multiple patient encounters when collecting specimens for this test. Use a serum separator tube for collection, and ensure serum is separated from cells within two hours to prevent specimen rejection. Use an ARUP Standard Transport Tube for serum transportation.
Limitations
This test quantitatively measures specific IgE levels, but the concentrations may not directly correlate with the degree of clinical response or in vivo skin test results when challenged with specific allergens. A negative result does not rule out the possibility of clinical allergy or anaphylaxis. Clinical correlation with history and other diagnostic methods is recommended for accurate diagnosis and management.
