FISH, Oligodendroglioma, 1p/19q
Use
Oligodendroglioma tumors exhibit simultaneous deletions of 1p and 19q in approximately two‑thirds of cases. These deletions are associated with favorable response to chemotherapy and longer survival, and their detection supports diagnosis and prognosis of oligodendroglioma.
Special Instructions
Specimens should be formalin‑fixed, paraffin‑embedded tissue blocks and are shipped at room temperature; viability decreases during transit. Setup occurs daily (a.m. and p.m.), with report available 5–7 days after receipt at the performing laboratory. Add three days for transport.
Limitations
This FISH assay targets only specific chromosomal regions (1p, 19q) and will not detect other molecular mutations or chromosomal alterations not covered by the probes. The assay has not been cleared or approved by the U.S. FDA but is validated under CLIA.
