Hepatitis A Antibody, Total with Reflex to IgM
Use
Detection of total antibodies against Hepatitis A Virus (HAV) may indicate prior immunization or resolved infection; if total antibody is reactive, reflex testing for IgM antibodies is performed to assist in identifying acute infection. Antibody patterns assist in differentiating immune status, recent/remote infection versus vaccination.
Special Instructions
Supplements containing biotin may interfere with assay results. For routine biotin dosing, collect sample at least 8 hours after last dose; for high-dose biotin supplementation, wait at least 72 hours before collection. Reflex IgM testing incurs additional charge.
Limitations
Interference from biotin supplementation; performance for immunocompromised patients, cord blood, patients under age 2, or cadaveric specimens may not be established.
