Hepatitis C Viral RNA Genotype 1 NS3 Drug Resistance
Also known as: Q80K Polymorphism, NS3 Protease Mutations, Telaprevir Resistance, NS3 Subtype, Simeprevir Resistance
Use
This test is intended to detect NS3 protease inhibitor resistance–associated variants (RAVs) in Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) genotype 1 by reverse transcription PCR and DNA sequencing of codons 1–181 in the NS3 region. It informs clinicians about mutations such as R155K and A156T that confer resistance to NS3 inhibitors, and polymorphisms like Q80K that affect treatment choices.
Special Instructions
Not provided.
Limitations
Requires sufficient viral load (≥1,000 IU/mL); may fail below this threshold. Specific to HCV genotype 1 and NS3 region only; cannot determine broader genotype or other resistance regions.
Methodology
PCR-based (PCR)
