Urinalysis with Reflex to Microscopic
Also known as: Macroscopic Reflexes Microscopic IF, U/A, UA and Clean Catch, UA and Midstream, UA Reflex
Use
Urinalysis with Reflex to Microscopic evaluates urine for chemical abnormalities via dipstick or macroscopic analysis and, if indicated by abnormal findings, proceeds to perform a microscopic examination to detect formed elements such as cells, casts, crystals, bacteria, and yeast — supporting diagnosis of urinary tract infections, metabolic or renal disorders.
Special Instructions
This test is a true reflex assay: microscopic examination is performed only when initial (macroscopic or dipstick) findings warrant it; additional charges (e.g., CPT 81015) may apply for the reflex component ([intellitestmanager.questdiagnostics.com](https://intellitestmanager.questdiagnostics.com/home/output/238707?utm_source=openai)).
Limitations
Limitations not explicitly detailed on the site; however reflex depends on initial screen results and insufficient volume or compromised specimen integrity (e.g., bloody or mucoid) may alter reflex logic or result in manual reflex variants ([intellitestmanager.questdiagnostics.com](https://intellitestmanager.questdiagnostics.com/home/output/238707?utm_source=openai)).
