ADAMTS13 Antibody
Also known as: ADAMTS AB
Use
The ADAMTS13 Antibody test assists in distinguishing between inherited and acquired forms of thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP). It is not recommended as an initial test for identifying autoantibodies due to its lower specificity compared to the ADAMTS13 Inhibitor test. It should be ordered when acquired TTP is suspected but antibodies are not identified by the ADAMTS13 inhibitor test.
Special Instructions
Draw the specimen prior to plasma exchange therapy. Use the ARUP Standard Transport Tube for specimen preparation. Separate specimens must be submitted when multiple tests are ordered.
Limitations
This test is less specific for acquired TTP when compared to the ADAMTS13 inhibitor test. Positive results are rare in healthy individuals or those with other types of autoantibodies. It is not cleared or approved by the US Food and Drug Administration, but is performed in a CLIA certified laboratory for clinical purposes.
