ADAMTS13 Activity Reflex Profile
Use
Differentiating thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) from a number of clinically similar conditions. Reflex to antibody assay is used to differentiate congenital from autoimmune ADAMTS13 deficiency.
Special Instructions
Reflex testing to ADAMTS13 antibody occurs when the activity is less than 30%. For optimal results, ensure proper specimen collection and handling as per outlined instructions.
Limitations
The test has been developed and its performance determined by Labcorp. It has not been cleared or approved by the FDA. False negative or positive results can occur, and ADAMTS13 levels greater than 10% do not exclude TTP diagnosis. Conditions like HUS or aHUS show normal or mild deficiency in ADAMTS13 activity, not excluding them from the differential diagnosis of TTP.

Blue-top (sodium citrate) tube
Collection Instructions
Blood should be collected in a blue-top tube containing 3.2% buffered sodium citrate. Ensure proper blood-to-anticoagulant ratio by filling evacuated collection tubes to completion. Mix immediately by gentle inversion at least six times. Centrifuge for 10 minutes and remove two-thirds of the plasma without disturbing the cells. Deliver to a plastic transport tube, cap, and recentrifuge for 10 minutes. The specimen should be transferred into a Labcorp PP transpak frozen purple tube with screw cap and frozen immediately.
Storage Instructions
Freeze immediately and maintain frozen until tested.
Causes for Rejection
Severe hemolysis; improper labeling; clotted specimen; specimen diluted with IV fluids; receipt of non-frozen sample; receipt of non-separated sample; receipt of EDTA plasma; receipt of serum; sample out of stability
