Antiphospholipid Antibody Panel
Also known as: APS, Cardiolipin Ab
Use
This panel is used to detect antiphospholipid antibodies (including beta‑2‑glycoprotein I antibodies IgG/IgA/IgM, cardiolipin antibodies IgA/IgG/IgM, and phosphatidylserine/prothrombin antibodies IgG/IgM) which are associated with increased risk of thrombosis and obstetric complications. It aids in evaluating suspected antiphospholipid syndrome, and may include clot‑detection methods.
Special Instructions
Preferred specimen is plasma collected in three 3.2% sodium citrate (light blue‑top) tubes, with centrifugation within 60 minutes to produce platelet‑poor plasma. Serum in three tubes is acceptable. Avoid hemolysis and lipemia. Aim to avoid the buffy coat when pipetting plasma. Transport and stability vary by temperature.
Limitations
Rejection criteria include hemolysis and gross lipemia. Platelet contamination may lead to spurious results. The test requires careful specimen processing and handling. No explicit comment on interference from anticoagulants is provided here.
