Allergen, Food, Beef
Also known as: BEEF
Use
The Allergen, Food, Beef test is used to evaluate the presence of specific IgE antibodies to beef allergens in the blood. This test helps identify individuals who might be allergic to beef, which could be critical for diagnosing food allergies and informing dietary modifications. The test provides a quantitative measurement of allergen-specific IgE levels, aiding in the assessment of allergic responses and potential clinical reactions to beef consumption.
Special Instructions
Multiple patient encounters should be avoided to ensure accurate measurement of allergen-specific IgE levels. It is important to coordinate with a specialist for the interpretation of results, especially when the IgE levels are in the range of 0.10-0.34 kU/L, where clinical relevance may be undetermined. Proper specimen collection, handling, and storage are crucial for valid results.
Limitations
The test results may not always correlate with clinical allergy symptoms or skin testing results. A negative test result does not rule out the possibility of a clinical allergy or anaphylaxis. Results should be interpreted in conjunction with the patient's clinical history and in vivo reactivity to beef allergens. IgE concentrations might not directly correlate with the severity of clinical reactions.
