Allergen Profile, Food−Meat
Use
The Allergen Profile, Food−Meat test is used to detect and quantify food-specific IgE antibodies to three types of meat foods: beef, chicken, and pork. The presence of specific IgE can support the diagnosis of food allergies in patients suspected of adverse food reactions. The test assists in the identification of specific food allergens that may be responsible for allergic symptoms, aiding the healthcare provider to design a suitable management and treatment plan for patients with food allergies.
Special Instructions
Patients should avoid certain foods prior to testing if instructed by their healthcare provider. This test uses Thermo Fisher ImmunoCAP methodology which is known for high precision in measuring specific IgE antibodies.
Limitations
This test detects specific IgE antibodies and does not ascertain clinical allergy on its own. False positive results can occur in asymptomatic individuals, while false negatives may occur if an individual is not producing detectable levels of IgE at the time of testing. Cross-reactivity between different allergens may also present limitations in the interpretation of results. Results should be used in conjunction with clinical history and other diagnostic tools.
