Allergen, Food, Black Pepper
Also known as: BK PEPPER
Use
This test measures the allergen-specific IgE antibodies to black pepper in serum, using quantitative ImmunoCAP Fluorescent Enzyme Immunoassay. It is used to evaluate the presence of specific IgE antibodies, and its results are used in conjunction with clinical history and other diagnostic tests to assess the presence of an allergy to black pepper. Increasing ranges of allergen-specific IgE may reflect higher concentrations but do not necessarily correlate with the severity of clinical reactions. It is important to interpret the results in the context of the patient's clinical picture.
Special Instructions
Multiple patient encounters should be avoided when preparing for the test. Separate serum from cells as soon as possible or within 2 hours of collection. Transfer 0.5 mL serum to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube, with a minimum required volume of 0.25 mL. For multiple allergen orders, refer to 'Allergen Specimen Collection Instructions' at www.aruplab.com/testing/resources/specimen.
Limitations
Allergen-specific IgE test results do not necessarily predict clinical reactivity. Concentrations of allergen-specific IgE in serum that are within certain ranges do not always correlate with the degree of clinical response observed during exposure to the specific allergen. Specific IgE concentrations less than 0.10 kU/L are considered insignificant, whereas those between 0.10 kU/L and 0.34 kU/L have undetermined clinical relevance and should be interpreted with caution by a specialist. A negative test does not rule out clinical allergy or anaphylaxis.
