Allergen, Food, Lime IgE
Also known as: LIME
Use
The Allergen, Food, Lime IgE test is designed to quantitatively measure IgE antibodies specific to lime allergens. It's typically used to assess allergic reactions to lime in suspected individuals presenting with symptoms such as hives, asthma, or anaphylaxis upon lime exposure. Detection of allergen-specific IgE can help in diagnosing lime allergies, guide clinical management, and potentially reduce life-threatening allergic reactions by avoiding exposure based on confirmed diagnosis.
Special Instructions
Multiple patient encounters should be avoided to ensure accurate test results. It is important to follow the specific specimen collection instructions, particularly when ordering multiple allergen tests, as detailed on the ARUP website.
Limitations
Results between 0.10-0.34 kU/L are intended for specialist interpretation as their clinical relevance is undetermined. The test does not always correlate with clinical reactions or skin test results when challenged with specific allergens. A negative result does not rule out clinical allergy or the potential for anaphylaxis. Additionally, increases in allergen-specific IgE levels do not necessarily correlate with the severity of an allergic reaction.
