Allergen, Food, Ovomucoid IgE
Also known as: OVOMUCOID
Use
This test is used to measure the level of ovomucoid-specific IgE antibodies in the blood, which can help diagnose allergic reactions to egg white proteins. The test is relevant for patients suspected of having food allergies and aids in the evaluation and management of allergic disorders.
Special Instructions
Multiple patient encounters should be avoided when preparing for the test. Separate serum from cells as soon as possible or within 2 hours of collection. Transfer 0.5 mL serum to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube.
Limitations
Allergen-specific IgE concentrations might not correlate with the degree of clinical response or skin testing results when challenged with specific allergens. The correlation of laboratory results with clinical history and in vivo reactivity to specific allergens is essential. A negative result does not rule out clinical allergy or anaphylaxis.
