Allergen, Food, Peanut IgG
Also known as: PEANUT IGG
Use
This test is used to measure the levels of allergen-specific IgG antibodies for peanuts. IgG antibodies are often evaluated in cases of food sensitivities rather than immediate allergic reactions (which involve IgE antibodies). The presence of IgG antibodies to peanuts may indicate past exposure or sensitization to peanut allergens, although the clinical relevance for allergy diagnosis is still a subject of research. It is important to note that IgG testing is not typically used for diagnosing food allergies but rather for evaluating possible immune response to certain foods.
Special Instructions
Samples must be collected in a plain red or serum separator tube. Serum must be separated from cells as soon as possible, no later than 2 hours after collection, and transferred to an ARUP standard transport tube. The preferred transport condition is refrigerated. Refer to ARUP's allergen specimen collection instructions for detailed guidance.
Limitations
This test is not approved for use in New York State, and samples from individuals within New York cannot be processed due to the lack of state permits. As a Laboratory Developed Test (LDT), it has not been cleared by the FDA, but it is performed in a CLIA certified laboratory. The interpretation of results should consider the absence of FDA clearance and potential variability in clinical correlation of IgG levels with allergenic potential.
