Allergen, Grass, Alfalfa IgE
Also known as: ALFALFA
Use
This test is intended for the qualitative determination of allergen-specific IgE antibodies to Alfalfa. It is used to aid in the clinical diagnosis of allergic diseases such as asthma, rhinitis, conjunctivitis, and urticaria associated with exposure to Alfalfa. Results should be interpreted in conjunction with other clinical findings and patient history, as the presence of allergen-specific IgE antibodies may not necessarily correlate with clinical allergy symptoms.
Special Instructions
Patients should avoid multiple encounters to ensure accurate allergen concentrations. Serum should be separated from cells promptly, within two hours of collection, to prevent degradation and ensure the stability of the specimen. Results should be correlated with clinical history and in vivo reactivity to specific allergens.
Limitations
Concentrations of allergen-specific IgE antibodies as measured by this ImmunoCAP assay may not correlate with the degree of clinical response or skin testing results, and a negative result does not exclude the possibility of clinical allergy or even anaphylactic reactions. As with any test, results should be interpreted by a specialist in the context of clinical evaluation, as IgE levels cannot definitively predict the severity of allergic reactions.
