Allergen, Grass, Canary Grass
Also known as: CANARY
Use
The Allergen, Grass, Canary Grass test is used to measure the concentration of allergen-specific IgE antibodies in the blood, indicating an immune response to reed canary grass. These measurements help clinicians determine the level of allergen sensitivity and aid in the diagnosis of allergic disorders such as hay fever or asthma. The test results can guide the management of allergic symptoms through environmental control or targeted therapy. The presence of allergen-specific IgE alone does not confirm clinical allergy, thus results should be correlated with clinical symptoms and other diagnostic tests.
Special Instructions
The test requires specific specimen collection and handling procedures to ensure accurate results. Serum should be separated from cells as soon as possible, ideally within two hours of collection. This test is New York state approved, and patients should avoid multiple encounters before specimen collection. The clinical relevance of results in the range of 0.10-0.34 kU/L is undetermined and should be interpreted by specialists.
Limitations
This test measures the concentration of allergen-specific IgE but may not correlate with the degree of clinical symptoms or skin test results. A negative test does not rule out allergies; patients may still experience hypersensitivity reactions not captured by IgE measurement alone. Factors such as sample handling, presence of hemolyzed or lipemic specimens can interfere with test results.
