Allergen, Grass, Cultivated Wheat Pollen
Also known as: WHEAT POL
Use
This test measures the concentration of allergen-specific IgE antibodies to cultivated wheat pollen, helping in the assessment of allergic reactions. An elevated level of these IgE antibodies suggests sensitization to this allergen, which may correlate with allergic symptoms such as rhinitis or asthma upon exposure. It assists clinicians in identifying allergic sensitivities in patients presenting with symptoms indicative of allergic reactions, facilitating targeted avoidance and management strategies.
Special Instructions
Multiple patient encounters should be avoided to prevent variability in test results. It is essential to separate the serum from cells as soon as possible or within two hours of collection to maintain specimen integrity. Ensure that at least 0.5 mL of serum is transferred into an ARUP Standard Transport Tube for analysis.
Limitations
IgE levels in the range of 0.10-0.34 kU/L have undetermined clinical relevance. Although the test reflects allergen-specific IgE concentrations, these do not always correlate with clinical symptoms or skin prick test results. Therefore, results should be integrated with clinical history and in vivo testing. A negative test does not exclude the possibility of an allergy or severe allergic reaction upon exposure.
