Allergen, Occupational, Isocyanate MDI
Also known as: ISO MDI
Use
This test is used to measure the concentration of IgE antibodies specific to methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI), an occupational allergen, in the patient's serum. It provides an indication of potential allergic reactions in individuals who are exposed to isocyanates, commonly used in manufacturing and construction industries. The presence and concentration of specific IgE antibodies are indicative of sensitization and help in assessing the risk of an allergic response upon exposure.
Special Instructions
Multiple patient encounters should be avoided when preparing for this test. The test requires the collection of serum, and it is crucial to handle the specimen properly to ensure accurate results. Additionally, for multiple allergen orders, refer to the Allergen Specimen Collection Instructions provided by ARUP Laboratories.
Limitations
While this test measures the concentration of allergen-specific IgE antibodies, the correlation between quantitative results and clinical allergy symptoms is not absolute. The test results must be interpreted in conjunction with the patient's medical history and other diagnostic findings. A negative test result does not entirely exclude the possibility of clinical allergy or anaphylaxis. The clinical relevance of results in the range of 0.10-0.34 kU/L is undetermined and intended for specialist use.
