Basement Membrane Zone Antibody Panel
Also known as: BMZ AB PAN
Use
The Basement Membrane Zone Antibody Panel is the preferred initial diagnostic tool for suspected basement membrane zone antibody-associated skin and mucous membrane disorders that present with blistering, erosions, eczema, urticaria, pruritus, and/or mucositis. This panel aids in the diagnosis of pemphigoid, epidermolysis bullosa acquisita, and other related disorders by detecting IgG and IgA antibodies against components of the basement membrane zone using indirect immunofluorescence and ELISA. By providing insights into disease expression and activity, it helps inform patient management and therapy monitoring strategies.
Special Instructions
As a general rule, transport serum specimens to the laboratory as soon as possible. If shipment cannot occur promptly (within 2 hours), store refrigerated and ship at ambient temperature to ensure arrival within 7 days. For specimens expected to be delivered within 7-14 days, continue refrigerated storage and shipping. If receipt exceeds 14 days, freeze and ship samples. For specimens less than 0.5 mL, contact the Immunodermatology Laboratory at 801-581-7139 for guidance.
Limitations
This test does not rule out the diagnosis of associated diseases if negative. Detection, levels, and patterns of antibodies may vary with disease manifestations and do not solely confirm the condition. Clinical correlation with direct immunofluorescence findings and patient treatment history is essential for accurate interpretation. Additionally, the performance characteristics of non-FDA-cleared or approved methodologies utilized in this panel have been determined by the Immunodermatology Laboratory at the University of Utah, and are not intended for FDA clearance.
