Antiskin Autoantibodies, Quantitative
Also known as: Cutaneous Immunofluorescence, Indirect
Use
Detect the presence of circulating pemphigus and bullous pemphigoid antibodies in sera. Intracellular antibodies are present in 85% to 90% of pemphigus patients and specific basement membrane antibodies are present in 70% to 80% of patients with bullous pemphigoid.
Special Instructions
The test employs an indirect fluorescent antibody (IFA) methodology. Specimens should be collected using a red-top tube or gel-barrier tube and maintained at room temperature.
Limitations
Results could be affected by bacterial contamination or lipemia in the specimen. Turnaround time may vary based on the need for additional confirmatory or reflex tests.
