Bullous Pemphigoid (BP180 and BP230) Antibodies, IgG by ELISA
Also known as: BP180 230G
Use
This test is used to monitor disease in patients diagnosed with pemphigoid and elevated IgG BP180 and/or BP230 antibody levels. It is not recommended for initial diagnosis or to discriminate among immunobullous diseases. For monitoring disease progression and intermittent evaluation, the test can be used alongside other panels, such as the Basement Membrane Zone Antibody Panel or Immunobullous Disease Antibody Panel. The presence of these antibodies is associated with bullous pemphigoid and may assist in determining disease activity and treatment response.
Special Instructions
The test is approved for use in New York. It requires serum collected in a plain red or serum separator tube, and specimens should be shipped to the laboratory as soon as possible. For specimens less than 0.5 mL, contact the Immunodermatology Laboratory.
Limitations
Normal results do not exclude a diagnosis of pemphigoid or other immunobullous diseases. Up to 7 percent of individuals without pemphigoid may show increased levels of IgG BP180 and/or BP230 antibodies. The test does not detect all possible antibodies present in immunobullous diseases, and results should be interpreted in conjunction with clinical findings.
