Use
Immunohistochemical staining for CD117 (c‑Kit) aids in the diagnosis of gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST) and other tumors; useful as a diagnostic marker in appropriate clinical context.
Special Instructions
This test is performed as a stain‑and‑return (technical) service only. Submit electronic request or use ARUP Immunohistochemistry Stain Form (#32978) if electronic ordering is not available. Refer to ARUP Immunohistochemistry Stain Offerings brochure. Use tissue transport kit (ARUP supply #47808).
Limitations
Unacceptable specimens include depleted specimens or those submitted with non‑representative tissue type. Do not oven bake precut slides.

Collection Instructions
Formalin fix (10 percent neutral buffered formalin) and paraffin embed specimen (cells must be prepared into a cellblock). Transport tissue block or 5 unstained (3‑ to 5‑micron thick) positively charged slides in a tissue transport kit (ARUP supply #47808). If sending precut slides, do not oven bake.
Storage Instructions
Protect paraffin block and/or slides from excessive heat. Room temperature or refrigerated. Ship in cooled container during summer months.
Causes for Rejection
Depleted specimens. Specimens submitted with non‑representative tissue type.
