Coccidioides Antibodies Panel, Serum
Also known as: COCCI PAN
Use
This test aids in the diagnosis of coccidioidomycosis. It includes a panel of tests that detect Coccidioides antibodies. The presence of these antibodies suggests past or current infection. A titer of 1:2 or greater suggests infection, and titers of less than 1:32 may indicate past infection or self-limited disease. Antibody detection in CSF is diagnostic of coccidioidal meningitis.
Special Instructions
Specimens should be plainly marked as 'acute' or 'convalescent.' Parallel testing of acute and convalescent specimens is preferred, and convalescent specimens must be received within 30 days from receipt of acute specimens.
Limitations
The test may show low sensitivity in cases of chronic residual pulmonary disease, where greater than 30% of patients may have negative CF tests. Titers exceeding 1:16 may indicate disseminated infection. The test also may not detect antibodies in all cases of coccidioidal meningitis.
