Coccidioides Antibody, Complement Fixation, Serum
Use
Infection by Coccidioides immitis can produce a spectrum of disease, with most patients being asymptomatic and some developing disseminated disease, including pneumonia and meningitis. Complement fixation antibody titers assist in identifying active infection or disseminated disease and are particularly useful in diagnostic evaluation of suspected coccidioidomycosis. Increasing titers over serial specimens may indicate disease progression or severity.
Special Instructions
Not provided.
Limitations
False‑negatives may occur in patients with solitary pulmonary lesions. Patients with active histoplasmosis may generate cross‑reactions. Elevated serum antibodies may be present in patients with meningeal coccidioidomycosis. Hemolyzed, grossly lipemic, or icteric specimens may be rejected.
