Coccidioides Antibodies Reflexive Panel, Serum
Also known as: COCCI R
Use
Coccidioides Antibodies Reflexive Panel, Serum aids in the diagnosis of coccidioidomycosis, a fungal infection caused by Coccidioides species. The test includes screening by immunoassay (IgM and IgG) and confirmation by complement fixation and immunodiffusion. Positive or equivocal results in immunoassay prompts reflexive testing with additional methods to improve diagnostic accuracy, helping distinguish acute from chronic or previous infections.
Special Instructions
If the immunoassay testing is equivocal or positive for IgM and/or IgG, then Coccidioides Antibodies by Immunodiffusion and Coccidioides Antibody Titer by Complement Fixation will be added. Additional charges apply for reflex testing. Mark specimens plainly as "acute" or "convalescent" for appropriate interpretation.
Limitations
Testing is limited to serum samples only; other body fluids are unacceptable. Hemolysis, lipemia, or contamination of specimens may affect results or cause rejection of the sample. The presence of IgM and IgG antibodies aids in diagnosis, but antibodies might not be detectable in all infected individuals, especially in the early stages or in immunocompromised patients. Immunodiffusion and complement fixation tests are more specific but may not reach sufficient sensitivity for detecting all cases.
