FYB Antigen Typing - Patient
Also known as: FYB AG
Use
The FYB Antigen Typing test is designed to determine if the Fy(b) (FY2) antigen is expressed on the patient's red blood cells. This information is crucial for blood transfusions and in understanding compatibility and potential alloimmunization in patients. It helps in identifying whether the patient is homozygous or heterozygous for the Fy(b) antigen. For a more comprehensive analysis of the Duffy blood group system, it is recommended to also determine the presence of the FYA antigen.
Special Instructions
For a more comprehensive analysis, it is recommended that the FYA Antigen Typing test (2007717) be ordered alongside the FYB antigen test.
Limitations
The test cannot determine the zygosity of the Duffy B antigen unless the FYA Antigen Typing test is concurrently performed. Variants in the FYB gene may not be detected if they do not affect the antigen expression or if they occur in regions not covered by the test. The test does not differentiate between rare genotyping variances that do not affect the serological phenotype.
