Inhibin by Immunohistochemistry
Also known as: INHIBI IHC
Use
The Inhibin by Immunohistochemistry test is primarily used in the evaluation of adrenal tumors, gonadal stromal tumors, and other conditions where it may serve as a sensitive and specific marker for the presence of inhibin. This test has particular significance in identifying ovarian sex cord-stromal tumors and is instrumental in diagnosing inhibin-secreting tumors. It helps in distinguishing these from other tumor types, contributing to accurate histological classification and aiding in the management and therapeutic decision-making for affected patients.
Special Instructions
IMMUNOHISTOCHEMISTRY ORDERING AND SUBMISSION DETAILS: Submit electronic request. If you do not have electronic ordering capability, use an ARUP Immunohistochemistry Stain Form (#32978) with an ARUP client number. Prepare the formalin-fixed and paraffin-embedded specimen according to the specified guidelines. Ensure tissue block or unstained slides are protected from excessive heat during transport. Contact ARUP Client Services for further assistance and materials.
Limitations
The performance characteristics of this test were determined by ARUP Laboratories. It has not been cleared or approved by the FDA, and its results should be correlated with other clinical and laboratory data available to the physician. Unacceptable conditions for test processing include non-representative tissue types and depleted specimens, which may lead to false results or inability to complete the test accurately. This test, performed as a stain and return service, may not always detect all inhibin-secreting tumors, and confirmatory tests may be necessary.
