Measles (Rubeola) Antibody, IgG
Also known as: MEASLES G
Use
The Measles (Rubeola) Antibody, IgG test is used to determine the presence of IgG antibodies against the measles virus. It is primarily used to confirm immunity to measles, typically as a result of prior vaccination or past infection. A positive result indicates a current or past exposure to measles or successful immunization. It can be utilized in situations where there is a need to verify immunization status, especially in individuals who require evidence of immunity due to travel, employment, or school entry requirements.
Special Instructions
For cerebrospinal fluid, order Measles (Rubeola) Antibody, IgG, CSF (0054440). Parallel testing is preferred and convalescent specimens must be received within 30 days from receipt of the acute specimens.
Limitations
The test is not recommended as a stand-alone test except for determining antibody production from vaccination. A negative result does not rule out susceptibility to measles, especially if testing occurred shortly after exposure. Test sensitivity and specificity might be affected by the timing of specimen collection relative to infection or vaccination. IgG levels may not correlate with protective immunity in some individuals.
