Mycobacterium Tuberculosis by Immunohistochemistry
Also known as: MTB IHC
Use
Immunohistochemical staining for Mycobacterium tuberculosis aids in identifying mycobacterial organisms within tissue sections, providing qualitative detection in paraffin-embedded specimens for diagnostic confirmation in suspected tuberculosis cases.
Special Instructions
This test is performed as a stain-and-return service only, with ordering recommendations referenced in the ARUP Immunohistochemistry Stain Offerings brochure.
Limitations
Unacceptable specimens include tissue not processed into paraffin block, serum, blood, or other fluids, or tissue not mounted on positively charged slides. Sending precut slides that have been oven‑baked is not acceptable. Frozen specimens are unacceptable. The stain is qualitative and interpretive; limits exist based on tissue processing and slide quality.
