P1 Antigen Typing - Patient
Also known as: P1 AG
Use
The P1 Antigen Typing test is used to determine if the P1 (P1PK1) antigen is expressed on the patient's red blood cells. This test can help in blood group serology and is essential for identifying suitable blood transfusion candidates as well as understanding certain transfusion reactions.
Special Instructions
The test requires whole blood collected in K2EDTA tubes. Ensure that the blood sample is not frozen before transporting. Details regarding volume and transport conditions are specified and must be adhered to for accurate results.
Limitations
The test is limited by factors such as improper sample handling, storage, and transport, which can affect the integrity of the red blood cells and the accuracy of hemagglutination results. Additionally, the test cannot be performed on frozen samples or separator tubes, which are considered unacceptable for testing.
