Use
The SALL4 immunohistochemistry test is utilized primarily in the identification and characterization of certain types of tumors. SALL4 is a transcription factor frequently used as a marker in germ cell tumors and some other neoplastic conditions. Through the application of immunohistochemistry methods, the presence of SALL4 within tissue samples can be detected, providing critical information for the diagnosis and management of cancer in a clinical setting.
Special Instructions
This test is performed as a stain and return service only. Submit an electronic request through ARUP Connect or use the ARUP Immunohistochemistry Stain Form (#32978) with an ARUP client number if electronic ordering is not available. The test requires the use of a tissue transport kit, which can be ordered from ARUP Client Services.
Limitations
The test is limited to detection of the SALL4 protein presence using immunohistochemical staining methods. It has not been cleared or approved by the FDA and is executed as a laboratory developed test (LDT) in a CLIA-certified lab. Results should be interpreted within the context of the overall clinical picture, as false positives may occur and stains may not be representative of all tumor cells present.

Collection Instructions
Formalin fix (10 percent neutral buffered formalin) and paraffin embed the specimen. Transport the tissue block or 5 unstained (3- to 5-micron thick sections), positively charged slides in an ARUP tissue transport kit (#47808).
Storage Instructions
Store at room temperature or refrigerated. Ship in a cooled container during summer.
Causes for Rejection
Specimens with non-representative tissue type or depleted specimens.
