Thrombin Time with Reflex to Thrombin Time 1:1 Mix
Also known as: TT
Use
This test helps in diagnosing dysfibrinogenemia or abnormalities with fibrin polymerization. It is used to screen samples for the presence of heparin or direct thrombin inhibitors. If the Thrombin Time is elevated, an additional reflex test, Thrombin Time 1:1 Mix, will be performed to further assess the coagulation status.
Special Instructions
Additional charges apply if the reflex test is performed. It is important to ensure the specimen is collected in the appropriate tube and handled according to guidelines. Critical freezing is required for the specimen, and separate specimens must be submitted when multiple tests are ordered.
Limitations
The test is specifically designed for detecting potential thrombin and polymerization abnormalities. However, it may not be fully determinative for all coagulation disorders or exclude all forms of anticoagulant effects. It is important to follow specimen collection and handling instructions to avoid degradation, which could impact results. Hemolyzed or clotted samples lead to rejection.
