β2-Microglobulin (Serial Monitor)
Also known as: Beta-2 Microglobulin, Serum (Serial Monitor)
Use
The β2-Microglobulin test is used for long-term serial monitoring of patients. It provides a color graphic summary report that can help in tracking the patient's response to therapy over time. The test is crucial in situations where consistent monitoring using the same assay method is necessary to evaluate the patient's condition accurately. The test results, in combination with other clinical and laboratory findings, can aid in the management and prognosis of the patient's clinical status.
Special Instructions
The patient's Social Security number must be submitted to enable monitoring. Values obtained from different assay methods should not be used interchangeably when conducting serial testing. Consistent use of a single assay method is recommended to accurately monitor a patient's therapy.
Limitations
Values obtained with different assay methods cannot be used interchangeably for serial testing, and results should not be interpreted as conclusive evidence of the presence or absence of malignant disease. Only consistent use of one type of assay is recommended for reliable monitoring.
