Bone-specific Alkaline Phosphatase (BAP)
Also known as: BAP, Ostase®, Skeletal Alkaline Phosphatase (SALP)
Use
Quantitative measurement of skeletal alkaline phosphatase to be used as an aid in the management of patients with Paget disease and osteoporosis
Special Instructions
Separate serum from cells within 45 minutes of collection. Do not interchange results obtained with different assay methodologies. Handle serum specimen appropriately to avoid erroneous results, especially in cases where liver alkaline phosphatase is elevated.
Limitations
Serum specimens with significant elevations of liver alkaline phosphatase may result in aberrantly elevated results with the Ostase® assay. Additionally, patients who have undergone therapy involving mouse monoclonal antibodies may produce erroneous results due to the presence of these antibodies interfering with the assay.
