Cashew Nut
Use
The Cashew Nut test is used to detect specific IgE antibodies to cashew nut allergens in patient serum samples. The presence of specific IgE indicates sensitization, which can be associated with allergic reactions to cashew nuts. It is primarily used in the clinical diagnosis of food allergies, helping differentiate between individuals with and without cashew nut allergies.
Special Instructions
Ensure the serum sample is collected in a red-top tube or gel-barrier tube. Proper handling and storage instructions must be followed to maintain the stability and integrity of the sample until testing. Confirmatory or reflex tests may need additional time.
Limitations
The test identifies specific IgE antibodies, which indicate sensitization to cashew nut allergens but do not confirm the clinical allergy without correlating with patient history and/or other clinical evaluations. False positives can occur, and negative results do not rule out the possibility of allergy through non-IgE mechanisms or other allergens.
