Codfish
Use
The Codfish test measures specific IgE levels to codfish allergens using the Thermo Fisher ImmunoCAP® methodology. It helps in identifying allergic reactions to codfish, which is important for diagnosing fish allergies in patients. This test aids in the management of allergic symptoms and avoidance strategies for those with confirmed fish allergies.
Special Instructions
Ensure the specimen is collected in a red-top or gel-barrier tube. Follow recommended stability instructions to maintain the integrity of the sample. Note that testing schedules may vary and additional time may be required for confirmatory tests.
Limitations
The test is specific to IgE antibodies targeting codfish allergens. It does not evaluate other fish allergies or non-IgE mediated reactions. Results must be interpreted in the context of the patient's clinical history and other diagnostic findings. False positives/negatives may occur, and cross-reactivity with other fish species can sometimes influence results.
