Special Instructions
Record total 24-hour urine volume on the test request form. Ensure patient avoids seafood and red wine 72 hours prior to collection. Specimen collection should be a 24-hour urine sample without preservatives and should be mixed well before sending for analysis.
Limitations
This test has not been cleared or approved by the FDA. The presence of certain dietary forms of arsenic, such as those from seafood, can interfere with the results as they comprise non-toxic forms of arsenic primarily arsenobetaine and arsenocholine. Therefore, it is important to avoid seafood consumption prior to specimen collection.
