Comprehensive Toxic Metal Panel, 24‑Hour Urine
Also known as: Metal Toxic Panel, Toxic Metal Panel
Use
This test assesses exposure to potentially toxic elements in the body by measuring their excretion in a 24‑hour urine sample. Exposure to metals such as arsenic, cadmium, lead, mercury, cobalt, and thallium may result from environmental, occupational, or other sources, and elevated levels may indicate acute or chronic metal toxicity requiring clinical evaluation and potential intervention.
Special Instructions
Avoid seafood consumption for 48 hours prior to collection. Requires collection of a 24‑hour urine specimen with appropriate patient instructions and preservatives as needed.
Limitations
Analytical performance characteristics, including potential interferences and limits of detection, are not specified here. Results may be influenced by collection compliance, urinary volume accuracy, and recent dietary exposure due to seafood; proper adherence to collection protocol is critical.
