Cortisol, AM
Use
The Cortisol, AM test measures the level of cortisol in the blood collected in the morning. Cortisol is a hormone produced by the adrenal glands and plays a key role in stress response, metabolism regulation, and immune function. This test is typically used to diagnose disorders of the adrenal glands such as Addison's disease, Cushing's syndrome, and to monitor treatment of these conditions.
Special Instructions
State collection time and date on the sample. Patients should stop biotin consumption at least 72 hours before sample collection to avoid interference with test results.
Limitations
Results may be affected if the sample is collected from a person taking high doses of biotin. The test may also display interference from other factors, hence additional confirmatory tests might be required in some cases. Irregular collection or improper handling of the sample can lead to inaccurate results.
