Fungus Culture With Stain
Use
Aid in the establishment of the diagnosis of fungal infection
Special Instructions
Cultures are incubated and observed for one to four weeks depending on the specimen source. Results on sterile body fluids and blood are reported in four weeks; hair, skin, and nails in three weeks; and urine and genital specimens in one week. Additional charges/CPT codes may apply based on culture results.
Limitations
This test should not be the sole criterion for diagnosing a fungal infection. Results must be interpreted in conjunction with clinical findings and other diagnostic tools. Some fungi require special culture techniques not covered in this test. The test may yield false negatives if specimen volume is inadequate or if collection and submission procedures are not properly followed.
