Goat Epithelium
Use
The Goat Epithelium test is intended for the detection and quantification of specific Immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibodies to goat epithelia. It is used as part of an allergy testing panel to aid in the diagnosis of allergic conditions in patients, identifying hypersensitivity to goat dander. This test helps in guiding patient management, avoiding allergen exposure, and supporting therapeutic decisions in cases where allergen-specific immunotherapy might be considered.
Special Instructions
Results are generally reported as classes that indicate different levels of specific IgE antibodies, ranging from negative to very high. It's important to correlate laboratory findings with clinical evaluation and patient history to determine the clinical relevance of the test results. Health care providers should consider a comprehensive allergy workup when appropriate.
Limitations
This test measures specific IgE antibodies, which are only one part of the allergic response. The presence of IgE antibodies to a specific allergen does not necessarily indicate a clinical sensitivity or allergy. False positives or negatives can occur, and results should be interpreted within the context of the patient's clinical presentation and other laboratory findings. Cross-reactivity with other allergens can also impact the results and should be considered when interpreting the outcomes. Further testing or clinical evaluation may be needed for a comprehensive assessment.
