Growth Hormone, Three Specimens
Use
The Growth Hormone, Three Specimens test is used to evaluate the function of the pituitary gland by measuring growth hormone levels in response to a stimulant. It involves collecting an initial baseline serum sample followed by subsequent samples after administering a treatment such as a pill or shot. This test helps diagnose disorders related to abnormal growth hormone production or pituitary function.
Special Instructions
For accurate results, patients should avoid biotin supplements at least 72 hours before the test. This test requires multiple specimens drawn sequentially after a dose of stimulant is administered. Ensure coordination with the clinician for appropriate timing and dosage of the stimulant prior to the test.
Limitations
This test may be affected by biotin interference if high-dose supplements have been consumed. Patients taking biotin should discontinue use 72 hours before specimen collection. Incorrect timing of specimen collection relative to stimulant administration can lead to misinterpretation of results.
