Human Immunodeficiency Virus 1 (HIV-1), Quantitative, Real-time PCR (Graphical) With Reflex to PhenoSense®
Also known as: HIV-1 Plasma Viremia, HIV-1 RNA by Real-time (RT) PCR, Quantitative, Reflex to PhenoSense®, Viral Load
Use
Detect and quantitate HIV-1 in plasma with reflex to phenotype (at additional charge) if viral load is >500 copies/mL. Test determines virus resistance to antiretroviral drugs.
Special Instructions
Reflex to phenotype is performed at an additional charge if the viral load exceeds 500 copies/mL. Proper specimen collection and handling are crucial to ensure correct test results. Specimens should be collected in lavender-top (EDTA) tubes and processed promptly.
Limitations
The assay range for this test is from 20 to 10,000,000 copies/mL. Specimens collected in green-top (heparin) tubes or improper transportation methods can lead to false results. Additionally, repeat testing cannot be performed if the minimum volume requirement is not met.

Collection Instructions
Collect specimen in three lavender-top (EDTA) tubes or three PPT™ tubes. Centrifuge specimen within six hours of collection. Remove plasma, transfer to screw-cap tubes, and freeze. Do not use green-top (heparin) tubes.
Storage Instructions
Freeze for long-term storage. Frozen specimens are preferred but stable at room temperature for one day or refrigerated for five days.
Causes for Rejection
Hemolysis; green-top (heparin) tube; specimen received in "pop-top" or "snap-cap" tube; quantity not sufficient for analysis; frozen PPT™
