Human Immunodeficiency Virus 1 (HIV-1), Quantitative, Real-time PCR (Graphical) With Reflex to PhenoSense Integrase®
Also known as: HIV-1 Plasma Viremia, HIV-1 RNA by Real-time (RT) PCR, Quantitative, Raltegravir, Reflex to PhenoSense Integrase®, Viral Load
Use
Detect and quantitate HIV-1 in plasma with reflex to phenotype (at additional charge) if viral load is >500 copies/mL.
Special Instructions
This test involves reflex testing to PhenoSense Integrase® if the HIV-1 viral load is greater than 500 copies/mL, which incurs additional charges. Proper specimen collection and handling are essential to avoid delays in turnaround time, especially with frozen samples. Separate frozen specimens are required for the PhenoSense Integrase® portion of the test.
Limitations
The assay can accurately detect and quantitate HIV-1 RNA across a range of 20 to 10,000,000 copies/mL. Improper specimen handling, such as using the wrong collection tubes or failing to appropriately freeze plasma samples, can lead to inaccurate readings. Hemolysis, use of green-top (heparin) tubes, or pop-top/snap-cap tubes for specimen collection will result in rejection. Low viral load readings may be inaccurately elevated if processing guidelines are not strictly followed, particularly when using PPT™ tubes.

Collection Instructions
Collect in lavender-top (EDTA) or PPT™ tubes. Centrifuge within six hours, transfer plasma to screw-cap tubes, and freeze. Do not use green-top (heparin) tubes or ship in PPT™. Separate specimens are preferred for multiple tests.
Storage Instructions
Freeze for long-term storage. Stable at room temperature for one day or refrigerated for five days.
Causes for Rejection
Hemolysis, use of green-top tubes, pop-top or snap-cap tubes, insufficient quantity, or frozen PPT™
