Human Immunodeficiency Virus 1 (HIV-1), Quantitative, Real-time PCR (Nongraphical) With Reflex to PhenoSense Entry®
Also known as: HIV-1 Plasma Viremia, HIV-1 RNA by Real-time (RT) PCR, Quantitative, Reflex to PhenoSense Entry®, Viral Load
Use
Detect and quantitate HIV-1 in plasma with reflex to phenotype (at additional charge) if viral load is >1000 copies/mL.
Special Instructions
Ensure plasma specimens are frozen, preferably in screw-cap polypropylene transport tubes. Avoid using green-top (heparin) tubes for collection. When requesting multiple tests, submit separate frozen specimens for each test to prevent delays in processing. Follow proper collection instructions to avoid false elevations of low viral load samples.
Limitations
The assay can reliably measure HIV-1 RNA levels within the range of 20 to 10,000,000 copies/mL. Parameters outside this range may affect the test's accuracy. Specimens that do not adhere to collection and storage instructions, such as those collected in green-top tubes or transferred incorrectly, may lead to inaccurate results or test rejection.
